Today we booked a coach trip to Timanfaya.  It meant that Kevin could have a rest from driving and enjoy the scenery.  We dropped off our hire car first before walking to the pick up point.  Being the first pick up point, we were able to get seats on the front of the bus for the best views. The bus collected at Playa Honda and Puerto del Carmen before a rendezvous with another coach bringing passengers from southerly Playa Blanca. The forst stop was the green lagoon which we had seen yesterday.  After that, the tor headed up to La Geria for a look at the unusual vineyards, where vines are buried deep into the earth to reach the pre-volcanic eruption fertile soil.  The vines are also protected by a semi-circular wall that gives some respite from the island's wind. It had rained overnight again so there was more mopping of floors to be done.  Our host offered to bring more towels but we were drying those that she had provided on the balcony. After breakfast we headed to the south of the island to see the attractions there.  The roads are new and not too crowded and it doesn't seem too long to get anywhere.  And almost everywhere there is a view of the Atlantic. First stop was the green lagoon near the fishing port of El Golfo.  We last visited here 20 years ago and the access to the beach has changed.  Whereas last time you could walk down to the beach, it is now viewed from a mirador above the site.  Joan remembers sitting on the beach and looking for granules of Olivine, a local, semi-precious stone.
