30 August 2021 : First holiday during a pandemic
Who would have thought when we left St Kitts in December 2021that that would be our last holiday until now.
Whilst some people have had holidays during times of Covid, because Kevin is CEV, we have stayed home. Planned holidays to Ecuador and the Galapagos as well as Kamchatka have never happened. We have stayed at home.
With the prospect of the virus being with us for a long time, and realising staying at home means you really don't have a break, we got the caravan serviced. It's a 2 berth Lunar Ariva (2010) which was hifted to us by Kevin's mother. We've used it for a few short breaks before to Coniston, Southport and Cheddar.
We'd already got the Bank Holiday week booked off, but the cattery which we always use was fully booked. So we resigned ourselves to not going away and settled down for a week at home in the garden.
However on Sunday we awoke to find a message from the cattery to say they had had cancellations and could accommodate from Monday.
Given it is a Bank Holiday weekend and a lot of people aren't going abroad, it was a bit of a scramble to find a site with vacancies. Plus we hadn't thought where we wanted to go. So we ended up at a CAMC site between Bridlington and Flamborough. We managed to get an emergency Ocado delivery and find a hen sitter!
Time flew and the next thing it was Monday morning. Kevin ran the Meezers to the cattery in Derby whilst Joan did last minute pickling and cheesemaking.
Packing the caravan was a bit chaotic but a lot more critical. For health reasons we've decided not to use the amenities blocks at the campsite, and also, if we forget somthing, we can't just pop to the shops as we aren't going in those either.
Setting off was unpriblematic but the Google Maps app keot telling us to turn off the motorway. It was because I had accidentally put the Avoid Motorways setting on!
The campsite is between Bridlington and Flamborough. There was a warm and socially distanced welcome from the wardens and we soon found a pitch near the dog walking area.
For once, erecting the awning wasn't too much of a nightmare.
It took us about 3 hours to set up the van.
For dinner we cooked a BBQ, washed down with a few wines.
