Saturday 13th December 2025 - Borrasco Emilia hits Playa Bastian
Storm Emilia rattled the doors, lashed the windows and bent over the palms in the street but was nothing more than a heavy downpour.
We both slept well and long after our travels. The weather warning was for all day so we settled in for a day in.
Our flat is small with one bedroom, bathroom, studio kitchen-lounge and a terrace. Flats of a similar size locally sell for approximately 230,000 Euros. It's close to the centre of Costa Teguise and you can glimpse the sea from the bedroom window.
The host had warned us yesterday that the complex wasn't built level and that water might leak in. She provided towels to mop this up.
Around lunchtime, the rain stopped so we went out for a walk. We learned from our guidebook that Costa Teguise was built as a resort in the 1980s. Certainly it feels a bit tired and rundown. We saw some derelict flats on the way in.
The main street is a mix of cafe bars, car rentals, beach shops and, surprisingly, Cannabis Social Clubs. The sickly smell of weed hung heavy in the air.
We looked at the almost identical food menus - burgers, pizzas, fish 'n' chips - noting that it would be hard to eat here as a veggie, never mind being vegan.
On the street a lot of British voices were heard ( including ours).
In HiperDino we found a small plant based section which delivered dinner.
We headed past Brirish pubs and Irish bars packed with travellers dismayed by the weather.
The sea was choppy, and a sludgy brown, churned up by the storm.
We headed back to our apartment when it started to rain.
On the way we saw an egret like bird midden raking.
Kevin lost his wallet on the way out so we had to cancel cards as they hadn't be found at Manchester Airport on the plane or in the taxi.
The forecast tomorrow has changed from sunny to wet so we looked for a car to hire.
