Saturday 24th January 2026: Cuenca

City panarama from the Turi viewpoint.

Our flat has a lovely outdoor eating area where we have breakfast.

These photos are out of sequence and show the rain falling.

Today we took the other half of the topless bus tour.   The beauty of the city is immense, with so many elegant buildings.

That said, the Pumopungo Museum stands out like a sore thumb, with its unsympathetic Brutalist architecture

This cross marks the edge of the old city.

We stopped at a beautiful courtyard for lunch and had an interesting conversation with the waitress.  She is not a fan of Trump and regards what happened in Venezuela as an occupation.

We were entertained by some young women who spent at least twenty minutes taking photos of themselves in the courtyard.  Instagram has a lot to answer for.

As we ate, the air was getting closer and closer and black clouds started to roll in.  Then came the loudest thunderstorm I have ever seen, with lightning flashing and the roads streaming with water.  Though we hadn't got far to walk we were soaked to the skin.
